Paradise Valley IV

A pool and travertine terrace enclosed by olive and citrus, with Camelback Mountain rising behind the tree lineParadise Valley
Location
Paradise Valley, Arizona
Scope
Landscape design, Hardscape and masonry, Planting and native salvage
A walled garden in Paradise Valley, laid out so the pool reads directly against the Camelback ridgeline.

The site already had the view. The work was to build a garden that framed it rather than competed with it, and to hold the whole terrace at one level so the water sits flush in the paving.

Design

Travertine paving carries the main terrace and then breaks into a grid of turf-jointed squares at the edges, softening the transition into planting. Olive, citrus and oleander build the walls of the room in green, and the loungers were placed on the one axis that keeps the mountain in frame.

Build

Paving, pool surround, planting, turf and lighting were built and coordinated by Merit Landworks, working to finished levels that let the terrace read as a single plane from the house to the far bed.
